MOT Test

Is your vehicle over 3 years old? 

An annual MOT Test is a legal requirement, if your vehicle is now over 3 years old you will need to arrange an MOT every year.

We will check your class IV and class VII vehicles safety, roadworthiness and exhaust emissions. 

MOT

What will you test on my vehicle? 

Lights 

The MOT test checks the condition, operation, security and colour of your vehicles lights. 

Front lights, rear lights, brake lights. 

The fog lights, indicator and the registration plate lights will all be inspected. 

The test will also check to see if the headlamp aim is correct. 

Horn 

The horn must be present and functioning effectively. 

Battery 

The battery must not show any leakages and must be fixed securely. 

Electrical wiring 

Wiring should be secure and must not be damaged. 

Steering 

The strength and condition of the steering wheel will be tested and inspected for wear or damage. 

Power steering fluid levels will be checked. 

Suspension 

Suspension components will be inspected for corrosion or distortion. 

Brakes 

An inspection of the overall condition of the brakes, pedals and levers and the tester will conduct a performance test to test brakes efficiency. 

Tyres 

A tyre must be checked for the appropriate speed and load rating for the specific vehicle. Tyres will be tested for bulges and lumps. 

A tyres tread depth must not be below the legal limit of 1.6mm, 

Seats 

Your vehicle’s front seats are checked for security. Seat belts and restraint systems will be checked for security and to ensure they are effective. All components must be rust free with no sharp edges. 

Registration plates 

Must be fitted securely at the front and rear of the vehicle and must be clearly visible from 20 metres away. 

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) 

A VIN plate must be secured to the vehicle, or etched on the body or chassis of the vehicle. 

A speedometer must be fitted and fully illuminated. 

Exhaust system 

An inspection of the exhaust to make sure it is secure to the vehicle and does not have any leaks. 

Fuel system 

The fuel system will be checked for leaks and the tank cap must seal properly. 

Exhaust Emissions 

Emissions must be within the advised legal limit. 

The exhaust system will be checked for blue or black smoke. 

Mirrors and wipers 

Mirrors must be secure giving adequate views to the rear and side. 

Wipers and washers must work effectively. 

Windscreen 

There must not be any damage or other obstruction larger than 40mm on the windscreen. 

Passing the MOT Test (VT20) 

If your vehicle has passed the MOT test you will be issued with a VT20 ‘pass’ certificate 

Failing the MOT Test (VT30) 

Should your vehicle does not pass the MOT, you will receive a (VT30) a MOT failure certificate. Our specialist team will provide you with a report on where your vehicle has failed, and discuss with you what is required to get your vehicle to the required standards. 

MOT Retest options 

At Spa Motors in Leamington Spa we can retest your vehicle for free providing that you leave the vehicle at our test centre for the repairs to be rectified within 10 working days. 

You are entitled to take the car away for repairs and bring it back to us for a free partial retest if your MOT has not already expired. If you bring your car back to be retested after 10 working days, you will be charged for a full MOT
