The timing belt/Cambelt, like a spark plug or a tyre, is a consumable that needs special attention because its failure usually results in very expensive engine repairs. Therefore, the manufacturer's specifications regarding the renewal should be taken very seriously and complied with. Depending on the vehicle manufacturer or model, the change intervals are usually between 25,000 and 75,000 miles, in some cases even significantly higher for newer vehicles.
Together with the belt, the tensioning elements should be replaced as well, as these and their bearings wear out and often and so will rub a new belt quickly because it is not tensioned correctly or does not run straight over all the rollers and wheels. Likewise, it may also come to the failure of the clamping element, whereby the belt can just "jump off".
